The first look at the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary has been released online.

Following a successful film adaptation made in 1989, Pet Sematary has managed to become one of the most iconic Stephen King horror stories. The potential to re-explore ideas of “dead being better” helped push the producers and the stars of the movie towards the project in the first place.

“One of the things about doing a new version now is our understanding of life and death has progressed,” said the film’s producer, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “But are we more sophisticated about it or less?”

Additional first look images from the upcoming horror film can be found at Entertainment Weekly.

Pet Sematary follows a family who discover a mysterious plot of land near their home. They are warned by their elderly neighbor Jed that anything buried in the ground there will return to life, but will be changed by the act. When tragedy strikes the young family, they end up trying to use the magics of the area to their own detriment.

Pet Sematary is scheduled to premiere in theaters Apr. 5, 2019.
