Actors get asked a lot of the same questions while promoting a film, and they usually have prepared answers. However, Venom star Tom Hardy seems to approach interviews a bit differently. For example, when he and co-star Riz Ahmed (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) participated in a recent press junket for the upcoming him, his response to a routine question — “What was your favorite scene to film?” — wasn’t exactly rote.

“Oh, they’re scenes that aren’t in this movie,” Hardy replied, without hesitation, to ComicsExplained. “There are, like, 30, 40 minutes worth of scenes that aren’t in this movie.”

Ahmed interjected, “They’re all of your favorite ones?”

“All of them, yeah!” Hardy confirmed. “Mad puppeteering scenes, dark comedy scenes, that just never made it.”

Ahmed and Hardy entered a friendly debate about the meaning of the question, with Ahmed pointing out that the deleted scenes might have been Hardy’s favorites to film, but what people really want to know is which of the scenes that will make it to the screen are Hardy’s picks.

“If they didn’t make it into the film, probably they weren’t any good, bro,” Ahmed deadpanned. “I hate to break it to you.”

“Hello, darkness, my old friend,” quipped Hardy, before turning the question around, asking Ahmed what his favorite scene is.

Ahmed replied, “It was a scene we did together … and you were much, much better than me, so I’m really glad that they cut that out.”
