In the teaser trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story, the Millennium Falcon looked very different from what we’ve become accustomed to. Now, screenwriter Jon Kasdan has explained why the Falcon looks the way it does in the upcoming film and how it suits Lando’s needs.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kasdan explained that the Falcon hasn’t undergone the special modifications that Han made to it prior to the events of A New Hope, as it is still under Lando Calrissian’s ownership in Solo. “Where Han gave it a certain shabby coolness and a dinged up quality that reflected where he was at that point in his life, this Falcon reflects its owner very clearly in its shape and aesthetic and his needs, even if those needs be a little more space to entertain,” Kasdan said.

It was important to Kasdan and his father Lawrence that the Falcon always be representative of its owner. “One of the things Larry and I had talked about was the Falcon should always reflect the personality of its captain,” he said. In Lando’s case, he uses the Falcon as something of a party boat, so it looks a lot nicer under his care.

Directed by Ron Howard from a script by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke as Qi’ra and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. They’re joined by Thandie Newton as Val, Phoebe Waller-Bridge L3-37, Paul Bettany as Dryden Vos and Woody Harrelson as Tobias Beckett. The film hits theaters on May 25.
